About Me

If I had Wings
Hi and welcome to my  blog. I'm Bev Mayo and I live in Peterborough, England. The name RoeMayo is a combination of my maiden name 'Roe' and my married name 'Mayo' My father appreciated me using the name as I am one of three daughters.

I have always loved to create things and to stitch in particular. If I was ever told 'you can't do that' I would give whatever it was a good go. My first attempt at knitting was a raglan sleeved jumper at the age of 12. I managed to do it, and later, after  a Zoology degree ( a slight detour!) , put what I had learnt into practice by starting to design hand knitted Aran garments.

My first forays into stitch were through Penelope Tapestry Kits. The first one I attempted was of two pheasants, and several others followed. Working commercial cross stitch kits gave me confidence to have a go at design, and I have had several designs published in National magazines. And this led me towards the City & Guilds courses. I completed Creative Embroidery certificate and diploma levels in the early 1990's and have recently completed City & Guilds Patchwork & Quilting Level 3 certificate under the guidance of Barbara Weeks.

Flow

I have worked in local Primary and Secondary schools as an Artist in Residence and as a textile teacher, helping several schools achieve their Art Mark.

I have been an active member of the Embroiderers Guild since the early 90’s and joined the Quilters Guild 3 years ago.

I have had work exhibited both locally and further afield, and I was a finalist in the Charles Henry Foyle Award twice with my work being exhibited at the Needle Forge Museum in Redditch.

As my children have left home I am re-finding my creative side, and starting to teach again.

Hope you enjoy my new blog.

Bev
